  • Adcom GCD-700, Part 4

Ah, the spring of 1987.  On the strength of "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong," Crowded House gained a cult following.  As those were the drought years, San Francisco's weather was warm and sunny, even at the coast.  Lowell High, my alma mater, is located by the coast.  I had boring Chemistry class in the late morning.  I'd stare out the window, and that sunny weather just made me want to lie down on the grass outside, and take a nap.  The only thing which kept me awake was my classmate Jill, who brightly sang, "Don't Dream It's Over."

Ya know, in those days, we common folk were finally getting wireless remotes.  Remotes?  Nowadays, people just use iPads.

If you get an Adcom GCD-700, do not lose the remote!  You will need it to access many of its features, including the all-important time functions.  Yippee, the RC-700CD looks like something from the 80s!  And, like those awesome remotes from the 80s, the RC-700CD has a strong beam.  You can point it at the wall behind you, and it'll still communicate with the GCD-700.  Cool!

Like many of our Walkmen from the 80s, the RC-700CD uses two AA batteries.  While the GCD-700 itself was made in China, the RC-700CD remote was made in Japan.  Just as Adcom's styling is very 80s, the remote being made in Japan is also very 80s.  How cool is that?  Don't dream it's over!
