  • Adcom GCD-700, Part 3

Has it really been 30 years, since we got our jollies, by dialing 867-5309?  Tommy Tutone was the name of the band, which hailed from Northern California.  Their lead singer was Tommy Heath.

My kids love "867-5309/Jenny."  They hear it at malls, ice rinks, even miniature golf courses.

If you go back to my 3/23/2011 post about the Adcom GFT-555II tuner, you'll see a plug, which allows the GFB-800 to control the tuner.  Similarly, the GCD-700 can also be controlled via the GFB-800.  Alas, I do not know anyone who actually has the GFB-800.  Thus, I am not able to check this feature out.

My GFT-555II did not include the multi-pin cable to the GFB-800.  The GCD-700 does come with the cable, above.  Looks like a the old, early-90s plug on computer mice!

Sigh, the GCD-700 was made in the mid-90s, but its skimpy, 6-foot fixed powercord looks like something from Tommy Tutone's 1982 era.  It's a 2-prong polarized plug.

Since you cannot play around with after-market powercords, be judicious with your choice of powerline conditioner.  Yes, my GCD-700 plugs into a Power Wing with Oyaide SWO-XXX outlets.  And yes, the GCD-700 laps the Power Wing up.  But the Power Wing costs more than 3x that of the GCD-700 itself.  In lower-priced powerline conditioners, the GCD-700 works well with the API Power Pack II, PAC IDOS, and Tara Labs AD/6.
